Tires and Rims: An Overview

Tire and rims are important part of the functioning of a vehicle. Generally tires have a service life after which car manufacturers recommend the change of tires. Rims on the other hand have a much greater service life. They are usually changed for beautification purposes. Rims can also be bent or get rust on them. They are replaced then otherwise rims have more than twice the life of a tire easily.
It is very important to select your tires carefully. A wrong tire choice not affects the balance of a car, it can also lead to faulty braking and damaged suspension. Tubeless tires are in common use these days. The body of these tires adheres securely to the sides of the rim and stores compressed air just like the tire tube of the past. If these tires puncture, they still maintain some air pressure and can easily be driven to a shop generally. Cold puncture is required to remove punctures from a tubeless tire. A flexible rubber piece is pushed inside the punctured location to plug the hole and stop air from escaping the tire.
Rims are very important for the balance of car. They connect the tire to the rest of the wheel and the moving mechanism in a car. Rims are fitted on the central hub of the wheel. They are secured by nuts to their location. Any loose fitting of a rim generates vibration in a vehicle. The standard rims are made from metal sheets. These days alloys of aluminum, iron and zinc are very much in common as manufacturing materials for the rims. Alloy rims allow for a higher quality finish, greater balance but a lower weight which increases the performance of a car. It is a good practice to change your car rims after two years.
There are many options for buying and selling rims and tires in the market. Generally refurbished tires and rims compete with new ones. Good maintenance requires change of tires at fixed intervals. Old tires can always be sold for a profit. You can get different prices for them according to the state of their wear and tear. Usually even tires that have a lot of wear are also fixed by shops that retread tires. There are many online shops which provide rim and tire selling and buying. There, you can sell your existing set of tires and rims and go for a brand new combination for your car. Tires and rims run much longer if proper care is taken. Keep exchanging the front tires to the back and the right tire to the left and you will find that they will provide you a much better ride and will not wear down for much longer periods that you previously could only have imagined.

  2. How often should rims be replaced if they are neither rusted or bent? Rims and tire services are a mystery to me, so I'm glad there are articles like this one to help me out.
